Insurance is complicated
Everyone at Cornerstone has different levels of insurance contracts. Please fill out the form on the appointment page and we'll work with you to get you on the schedule of the therapist who best fits your needs and your finances.
Do you have out of network benefits?
All insurance plans have a policy for Out Of Network (OON) services. Some are better than others. Some are covered at a lower percentage than your In Network (INN) providers because insurance companies pay a contract rate that is lower than our fee. Some may not be covered at all. Look at your member page on your insurance company's website and see if you have coverage for OON in mental/behavioral health; provider; outpatient. Also check your deductible. Some plans have a higher deductible for OON services.

How does OON payment work?
You will pay the therapist's full fee at the time of service. We can either send in a claim for you or give you a Superbill to send to your insurance company yourself. The insurance company will/may then reimburse you at their OON rate. We may be able to help you to look for your OON coverage, but we always insist that you call the insurance company yourself to verify what we see in our database.
No matter what you hear from anyone the insurance company will always inform you that advice of coverage is no guarantee of payment. It is only the moment when they receive a claim or a Superbill that determination will be made. While this sounds unsettling, it is their standard disclaimer.

Some things to think about
- If you have a high deductible and a lot of medical expenses for the year, those expenses may be tax deductible. Everything you pay out of pocket (pharmacy, dental, medical, mental health, copays, etc.) that exceeds 10% of your gross adjusted income. Always ask for a yearly statement from us if you have a year of high medical bills, and keep all your other receipts. This can also be a consideration if you are concerned about paying OON rates.
- Also consider, and ask your plan, if we can try to get a Single Case Agreement for an In Network benefit. If you have a disorder like OCD, BFRB, BDD, etc. your insurance company may be willing to give us a single contract just for you with your therapist. Every coverage plan is different with this option. Some things we've seen help us are: Getting a referral from your primary care physician; contacting the manager of your plan (this is common when your employee union manages your benefits); explaining to the insurer the list of people you've called and the length of their waiting list.
