What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Comprised of intrusive, unwanted, and disturbing thoughts, OCD can drive a person to spend a great deal of time and energy doing ritualistic or compulsive behaviors in order to lower the anxiety or disturbance the thoughts bring.
The general population has no comprehension of how distressing this disorder can be or how difficult it can be to live normally.

Other Disorders Treated at Cornerstone

OCD Related Disorders
Misophonia could be called sound sensitivity or sound rage. It is a selective reactivity to specific sounds.

Olfactory Reference Syndrome is the persistent preoccupation with one's own body odor, but the person does not smell badly. May be related, in some way, to BDD.

Body Focussed Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs)
Hair pulling and skin picking are the most common BFRBs, and hair pulling is one of the most common disorders. Also included are fingernail biting or picking, cheek or lip biting, hair cutting, hair eating, etc.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder, (BDD)
Preoccupation with a perceived flaw in one's appearance that others do not or cannot see. The sufferer has pervasive and intrusive thoughts about their appearance and possibly compulsive behaviors like looking in the mirror, hiding perceived flaws, avoiding social situations, picking at their skin, or overly-controlled diet.
Acute Anxiety Disorders
Chronic worry, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder.
Hypochondria (AKA: Health Anxiety)
The obsessive, irrational fear of having a serious medical condition.  Based on the individual's misinterpretation of symptoms, and persists despite reassurance by their medical professional. Going beyond normal concerns with health, it can cause serious impact on functioning at work or school, and interpersonal relationships.
Hoarding Disorder
Issues with chronic excessive acquisition and acute anxiety at the prospect of discarding any of a variety of items that create difficulty in living comfortably in one's home.
Phobias
More intense than Generalized Anxiety, acute/chronic phobias such as Social Phobia, vehophobia (fear of driving), hemophobia (fear of blood), emetophobia (fear of throwing up), aerophobia (fear of flying), etc.
At this time all therapists are remotely seeing clients online through secure video sessions using HIPAA compliant GoToMeeting.
